We flew Continental Air from Ottawa, Canada and arrived in Geneva, Switzerland. From there we took a bus from the Geneva Airport (Alpybus.com) right to the doorstep of our hotel in Chamonix. If you get a group to travel with you from Geneva to Chamonix it is cheaper. The bus ride is less than an hour and as you approach Chamonix you the hilly terrain dramatically changes to immense glaciers. Simon, our driver, was happy to give us the low down on the mountain range.
We stayed at Hotel Alpina. I originally was looking to stay at an independent B&B, or hostel, but things booked up fast do to the Ultra Marathon taking place there and the deal at the resort was decent. The best part of the resort other than its location which is smack in the center of town close to everything and it has a hot tub which was great to relax in after our 5 days of trekking. However, next time I go I would likely seek out another place to stay as the facilities were not what you’d expect from a resort.
